008: Lomas Santa Fe Executive Golf Course

Lomas Santa Fe Executive, tucked in Solana Beach, is a short course you can play every day… and we have. “Little Lomas” is a fun loop that we frequent regularly and have played hundreds of rounds at. The course is nothing fancy, but it always has a good, calm vibe, making it a go-to summer round after work. The best time to play is into the summer sunset, where you get peekaboo ocean views and a refreshing breeze.

The course offers a great monthly deal that would be silly not to invest in if you live nearby—$30 a month gets you reduced tee times between $8 and $14, plus a beer! (Soda or water, too.) Price aside, it’s a great executive course that plays short but incorporates subtle elevation changes, along with a couple of short par 4s, making it perfect for wedge and short-game practice.

For most of the round, you’ll be hitting wedges to small, flat greens with subtle breaks, surrounded by spongy kikuyu rough. The shortest par 3 is 80 yards, playing uphill, while the longest par 3 is 150 yards, playing downhill. The greens at Lomas Santa Fe Executive are small, roll fairly, and feature subtle breaks. Notable greens on holes 4, 10, and 15 have two tiers, creating funky breaks and tricky putts. Both hole 2 and hole 14 are drivable par 4s, adding some nice variety.

The layout of the entire property feels surprisingly open, even though every hole runs side by side. Course conditioning is always decent—though a few tee boxes could be leveled—but overall, it’s a well-kept executive course.

Grab a half-set of clubs and enjoy the summer sunsets at Lomas Santa Fe Executive.
